Artist Statement

     Nye’s compositions are like a playground for the eyes, and decoding their message requires a certain kind of visual agility. His paintings are rooted in the realist, descriptive tradition of oil painting, yet the act of seeing is not always straightforward. To him, the beauty is in the looking, rather than in the subject itself. On the canvas, there is an abundance of information at hand: imagery overlaps, systems collide, and colour, line, and form blanket the landscape.
